The Pittsburgh Oratory of Philip St Neri is a ---- that provides educational and religious services to the local community and nearby university student populations. The existing facility dates back to the ---- and has a small chapel that has frequent continual worship hours. The choir loft is recessed on the second floor, concealed by a small arched opening limiting the sound and sightlines of the choir to the organist up front on the chancel.
The renovation goals were to provide a loft extension capable of supporting the choir and the new organ, built into the existing architecture, wood, and ceiling beams. A platform that looks like it was original to the building. WAY designed a platform that spanned to each existing exterior bearing wall, thereby allow a column free space below. The railing and wood trim was designed to match the existing aesthetics. Bridges construction and Gateway Engineering Structural provided design build services for General Construction, MEP and Structural permitting services.
The new pipe organ was built by the nationally renowned builder Paul Fritz & Co. Builders. WAY and Bridges Construction coordinated the organ loft criteria with Paul Fritz throughout the design and construction process.
