Scope: 12,500 S.F.
The 1781Club, formerly known as Scenic Valley, is known for its uniquely challenging 18 holes and par of 72. The 130-acre course was built in 2001 and is nestled in the hills of Peters Township, Pennsylvania. The golf course and country club changed ownership in the fall of 2021 and immediately the project began its makeover.
The project design morphed over time with varying requests from the owner to study prefabricated core and shell to entirely new stick framing, ultimately settling on the final design approach of rehabilitating the existing 2,950 s.f. farm club house and wrapping with the new 9, 450 s.f. around the existing with a modern farmhouse aesthetic. Utilizing large storefront glass, operable oversized doors for deck connectivity and three fireplaces to create a sense of a warm lodge. Blending and transitioning the old into the new through roof and ceiling lines, mass shifts and prioritizing the course views from the interior.
The project included interior and exterior renovations such as an addition space, new
covered heavy timber Porte cochere, new lux-restaurant area, new locker rooms, renovated lounge spaces with bar seating, as well as golf simulators and a speak easy. The project's goal was to bring modern finishes to a comfortable yet durable farmhouse aesthetic.
An upper linear continuous cupola creates a linkeage between the restaurants grand volume and the lower portions of the existing and renovated clubhouse featuring the new golf bar and private dining rooms, waiting area, and kitchen.
Golf Simulator were designed and coordinated with the owner''s equipment vendor for parameters to maintain. The construction cost was carefully controlled working with the structural engineer and construction team leading to the use of precast concrete planks framing system for the new construction areas to span long distances, allow for open deck areas, and reducing the labor of typical stick-built construction.
This project was the recipient of a 2024 ABC Builders Western PA Chapter Merit award.
